The Metastasis-Prizes 2019 are handed over at the EACR (European Association of Cancer Research) – Conference: “Seed and Soil” in Berlin.
The awardees are:
Senior applicants: Berta Sanchez-Laorden, Instituto de Neurociencias CSIC-UMH, San Juan de Alicante, Spain
Lisa Sevenich, Institut für Tumorbiologie und Experimentelle Therapie, Frankfurt, Germany
Junior applicant: Francesco Baschieri, Gustave Roussy Institute, Villejuif, France.
The three prizewinners could present their projects to the audience.
Berta Sanchez-Laorden: Impact of oligodendroglia on brain metastasis
Lisa Sevenich: Dissecting the complex interplay between innate and adoptive immunity in brain metastasis for improved tumor microenvironment targeted- or immunotherapies
Francesco Baschieri: CAF-tracks support durotaxis of colorectal cancer cells

GET TOGETHER IN VIENNA
As in 2012, 2014 and 2016 the “Friends of the Beug Foundation” (especially friends and colleagues of Hartmut Beug) meet at the “Alte AKH” in Vienna. The aims of the foundation and the recent awardees are presented and new activities are discussed.
The goal of this event is to keep the ties among the current “Friends of the Beug Foundation” and jointly spread the word of the foundation to attract further friends and supporters.
The foundation emphasizes their gratefulness for receiving further financial support and asks for continued donations.

IMPORTANT PUBLICATION
The science magazine “Nature” publishes the recent results of Salvador Aznar’s metastasis project. Salvador Aznar (prize winner 2013) found, together with Gloria Pascal, that tumour cells are dependent on fat to start metastasis.
